oh, and to make avvie bgs match dA colors, take a screenshot of dA page, where your icon would go, and paste it into whatever you use to draw on the compy ^_^ then just use your color picker/eyedropper tool :3
or, you can finish drawing whatever you're drawing (w/ no white bg) so that it's on a transparent layer, merge visible, so that the white bg doesn't pop up, and save it as a .png. That should keep it so any bg color of dA will show through. :3 '' I hope taht wasn't too confusing
